This is because of some international conference or other going on in Hokkaido. Which is approximately 500 miles away on a different island. There was also a sign informing us that police officers will be riding on buses for the same period.
Despite this sign, everyone was still putting things in the bin and the station staff were still emptying it. It’s also worth noting that there are hardly any bins anywhere in Japan, apart from in train stations and outside convenience stores. And, the obligatory “all terrorist acts carried out in Japan have been performed by Japanese people”. Although I don’t think that’s really applicable in this case.

it’s mooorning! almost… TOO EARLY. Quick one today.
Iron Man the movie: good. The game: shit. Looks like a PS2 game.
Bourne the game: not bad… be prepared for repeated instant failures and long looks at the load screen every time you mess up the billions of quicktime events. Combat’s good though.
Work is good, but tiring. Still, only 7 weeks to go. Ha!
Oh, and GTA 4 is fab. Though I still haven’t played it online.

Joe staggered in at 2am and tried again.
Joe saw that the Service has been Suspended and will Restart Next Week.
Joe played Virtua Fighter 5 for a bit.
Joe woke up with a horrible hangover.
I’ll stop typing like that now. My last day at Shane is tomorrow. I CANNOT WAIT. 6 lessons left, then a week and a half holiday in the (hopeful) company of GTA4, then I start my new job.

Part 2: Tuesday
Joe finished work and skipped home with Glee and Anticipation.
Joe Installed the Game Data. He had done this already, but there had been an Update, so he didn’t mind.
Joe discovered he needed a Konami ID and a Game ID.
Joe registered his Konami ID and Game ID.
Joe discovered his new Konami ID was unavailable.
Joe discovered his Konami ID after that was also unavailable.
Joe discovered this Konami ID was unavailable as well.
Joe discovered this Konami ID was available.
Joe thought that was a Bit Fucking Unlikely.
Joe entered his Game ID and password.
Joe was unable to connect to the server.
Joe was unable to connect to the server.
Joe was unable to connect to the server.
Joe was unable to connect to the server.
Joe was unable to connect to the server.
Joe was still unable to connect to the server after approximately 40 tries.
Joe watched the demo trailer again and cried a little bit.
Joe played a game where he saw how many games on Mame he could get through in one hour.
Joe will try again tomorrow.

On Sunday at 11pm, Joe downloaded MGSO from the Playstation store.
Joe was so excited he did a bit of wee.
Joe tried to play MGSO.
Joe needed to download the v1.01 Update.
Joe didn’t really mind because Updates are usually A Good Thing.
Joe started to download the Update.
At 2am, with 14% complete, Joe began to think that the Update was Taking Its Fucking Time.
Joe went to bed.
Joe woke up and the Update had finished Taking Its Fucking Time.
Joe had to go to work for two days.

I am so great. Yeah, I now work for Kanagawa Institute of Technology. I am such a badass.
PS: Pink shirts are the way forward. Chicks dig a man secure enough in his masculinity to wear a girl colour. Oh and fuck all those euphemisms. Fuck salmon, fuck light red. It’s pink, I’m wearing it, and I just got a job. Rock on.
Watching Supernatural at the moment. It’s good, but kind of predicable Is there any urban myth/legend NOT covered by this series? at the moment it’s crazed hillbillies, before that telekinesis, Wicker Man-style modern pagans, lunatic ghosts taking over the asylum… Jensen Ackles is gorgeous though.
OK, this is officially my gayest post so far.

spooky. Kinda reminds me of Kakurembo, which I saw a couple of years back at 2am on TV here in Japan because I’m so cool.
Also yeah, finally (like anyone is reading this), that Sleep Waking robot.
I’ve got a job interview next Wednesday. Teaching English in a technology uni. Three months paid holiday. Do want.

haaaang overrrr! i have the ever-entertaining quantum hangover. This is where you’re so hungover that you can’t tell how hungover you are, and any attempt to gauge it will make you feel more ill. So you just sit there, in a state of perpetual briny limbo, wondering if you could keep down a bacon sandwich.
I’m working in Yokosuka today, which is one of the US naval bases here in Japan. They’re called the “Self-Defense Force” because of Japan’s pacifist constitution, which I think is amusing as they generally cause more trouble than they prevent. *cough* Okinawa! *cough*
rage against the machine, two kinds of February 11, 2008

last night (or rather evening, gigs in Japan start at 6pm and finish promptly at 8:30) I went up to Chiba to the cavernous Makuhari Messe Conference Hall to see RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE HGLAGBLAFGHGUG. Only saw them once before, at Reading Festival (UK) in 2000, so it was great to see them again after so long.
Set list:
Guerrilla Radio
People of the Sun
Bombtrack
Testify
Vietnow
Bullet in the Head
Down Rodeo
Bulls on Parade
Tire Me
Know Your Enemy
Sleep Now in the Fire
War Within a Breath
Encore: Freedom, Killing in the Name
So there we go, a nice balance of the three studio albums (although nothing from Renegades). The one gripe I have is that the setlist is ostensibly the same as the one from 2000 as there’s been no new material (obviously). It also felt like too short a set, considering there was no support band. But I’m nitpicking. The gig was awesome, the band were on top form, Zack was full of energy and the crowd was demented. Thirty seconds into Guerrilla Radio some cheeky fucker had already jumped onto my back to crowdsurf. After three songs I had been swept back to the rear barrier and was pretty much lodged there for the rest of the gig.
Some videos (not taken by me):
Sleep Now in the Fire (I reckon this little improv bit will be a new song someday)
Bullet in the Head
Part 2: Anonymous held their Scientology demonstrations yesterday too, pretty well summed up here. It seems like they all went off without a hitch, with around 3-4000 people worldwide showing up. The V-mask effect worked well.
